About Minister of Defense’s statement
About Minister of Defense’s statement
The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Denmark has directed its attention to Danish Minister of Defense Ms Trine Bramsen’s statement made in the run-up to the publication of annual report by Danish Defense Intelligence Service regarding assessment of threats against Denmark. The point that evokes astonishment is that the Minister has chosen the threat allegedly posed by Russia’s activities during COVID-19 pandemic as the main topic for her commentary.
Russia has always advocated consolidation of states in order to combat the common challenge – the spread of COVID-19. Guided by exceptionally humanitarian reasons, Russia on a voluntary basis has provided assistance to the countries, which were most affected during the coronavirus first wave, including Italy.
However, that was the approach, which became a target of criticism from Ms Bramsen. Apparently, the Minister of Defense upholds some different values. Aspiration to preserve disunity and setting off countries against each other will hardly facilitate in approaching to the turning point in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. There is actually a pattern: once Denmark meets a challenge, there is an attempt to shift the responsibility on Russia.
